Reviews Customer Reviews for Touched By The Crimson King      So Good It Made Me Read Thousands of Pages      Rating:      Touched by the Crimson King, the second album by Demons & Wizards, is directly responsible for me reading a whole bloody lot of books. After listening to this awesome power metal album, I did some research and found that it was based mostly on Stephen King's The Dark Tower books, after which I purchased and read them. That came to a total of something like 4500 pages. But this isn't supposed to be about me. Demons & Wizards was formed by Hansi Kürsch and Jon Schaffer, Hansi Kürsch being power metal band Blind Guardian's lead vocalist and Jon Schaffer being power/thrash metal band Iced Earth's songwriter and guitarist. Touched by the Crimson King can best be described as power metal with thrash metal influences, which makes sense given its members. The thrash aspects are more apparent in some songs than others (Terror Train in particular), but that's okay as this means that there's more variety across the album. You get the many-Hansi choir a few times (e.g. Crimson King, The Gunslinger), though it's nowhere near as complex as those in Blind Guardian's later works. Touched by the Crimson King has a unique feel, very epic and melodic yet still quite hard. It's also got an acoustic ballad (Wicked Witch) and a metal ballad (Seize the Day), which act as nice changes of pace. The choruses are particularly well done; even Down Where I Am, my least favorite song of the album, gets stuck in my head when I listen to it. And I don't even really mind. The only real low point would have to be the cover of Immigrant's Song, which I feel just lacks the energy of the rest of the album. Ultimately, Touched by the Crimson King is one of my favorite albums. I highly recommend that you check it out. One final note: make sure you buy the version with the extra tracks, as Spatial Architects is one of the best songs on the album. Lunar Lament is up there too.     Customer Reviews for Touched By The Crimson King Cd      Some of the most passionate heavy metal ever!      Rating:      Touched By the Crimson King This is a fine album graced by the genius of the driving force behind Iced Earth and the masterful voice of Blind Guardian. It opens with the namesake for the album and finishes with an excellent cover of a classic Led Zeppelin song. What you get in between is pure mastery with such awesome songs as Terror Train, The Gunslinger and Dorian just to name a few. In my opinion you should buy this album especially if you already have their other one.
