Reviews Customer Reviews for Rock N Roll      Rock N Roll      Rating:      Ryan Adams-Rock N Roll **** Far from his most prolific release both lyrically and musically though it is by far Adams' most adventurous effort to date. Rock N Roll is Ryan Adams homage to well, Rock N Roll. It's raunchy like New York's seedy underbelly, self deprecating like all of rocks greats, and impassioned like all of Adams' great body of work. The lead track 'This Is It' is one of his most inspired pieces even though the lyrics are less than stellar in places you can feel he is really trying to convey something. '1974' is almost autobiographical yet just fictional enough to feel like a Jack Kerouac novel. 'Wish You Were Here' marks his greatest achievement on this album, and as one of his all time best tracks. Simply brilliant. Both angry and vulnerable at the same time. 'Note To Self' is borderline novelty but succeeds because of the conviction. 'Do Miss America' suffers just the same. Some of the tracks are forgettable while most of it is unforgettable. Far from his best album Rock N Roll is merely a way for Adams to play guitar, something he says he likes doing more than writing songs. It shows, because where the song as a whole suffers the guitar takes flight in a way Adams' never sailed before or after.     Customer Reviews for Rock N Roll Cd      Musically solid, Lyrically ... what happened?      Rating:      If Mr. Adams has ever needed help with his lyrics, this is it. Geeez, what a mess (on the ladder of success), if you can call Mr Adams' career a success. "Demolition" and "Gold" are far better albums. Any lyrics Paul Westerburg has written blows this completely out of the water. The real pity is, I believe, Adams could have done a whole lot better and indeed, he has. In spite of the great music and execution, I won't recommend this recording, especially to the young and impressionable.
