Customer Reviews for Twentyfourseven Cd Best UB40 album in decades Rating: UB40 have consistenly put out solid material, even years after their popularity peaked with Promises and Lies. But finally 2008 gives us an album that tops their past successes. Twentyfourseven showcases UB40's best songwriting on any of their many albums. Ali's trademark vocals have never shown as much dynamic range as they do on this album. Rainbow Nation is the brilliantly-written sequel to 1980's Tyler, and is perhaps the best song on the album. Although it could be argued that The Road is the best, as Norman Hassan outdoes himself with an impressive vocal delivery. There are two well-done Astro songs as well. The music is just as impressive as the songwriting, with superior bass-lines and a horn section that reminds us of UB40's youth. The drumming and percussion have never been tighter. There are a few collaborations with Maxi Priest and a couple covers, but it is the original UB40 material on this album that really impress. Twentyfourseven could possibly bring UB40 back to the top of American music charts, as this work clearly surpasses Labour of Love II.
