Reviews Customer Reviews for Does This Look Infected Lookin' back on a classic Rating: This CD and "All Killer No Filler" are the two classic Sum CDs in my opinion. Before that we had the amateurish "Half Hour of Power" and beyond that they lose sight of what they want to sound like. On its own, this is the best album by the boys of Sum 41, (yeah I know I said Chuck was the best when I reviewed it, but that was 4 years ago and in retrospect, Chuck's not even very good) This CD offers us a prime cut of everything that Sum 41 had put together when they built their career and explored just enough new ground to keep the old fans happy while attracting many more new ones.
Dave and Deryck's guitars were always a perfect unison, but on this CD they truly stepped it up to put together some absolutely edgy riffs. Cone's bass, even though you can't hear it all that much due to some botchy recording quality, is good like always. Dave's vocals compliment Deryck's on songs like "Mr. Amsterdam," but ultimately it's the Bizz that drives this CD along. His vocals are very appealing to the ears, because this boy can really sing, but he's got that snotty appeal that made pop-punk big around the turn of the millenium. The lyrics sound like a little kid that is frustrated with society but hasn't really grown into an activist's position yet because he doesn't know what he stands for. He sounds like someone who knows that something is wrong with the world but isn't really sure what.
This CD is awesome, and to think it's been so long that when this CD came out I was so young that my parents wouldn't let me buy it because of the PA sticker and I had to download it all illegally. Looking back 6 years this was the essence of mainstream pop-punk that is only seen today in bands that are relatively unknown like MXPX and Teenage Bottlerockets.
Highlight tracks: "Over my Head" "Still Waiting" "Hyper Insomnia Para Condroud" "My Direction"
Customer Reviews for Does This Look Infected Cd A pretty good cd Rating: I used to be a huge fan of Sum-41. All the way through Chuck (2004) (which I liked).
This cd was their 3rd release and was the start of the bands progression from a garage punk band to a rock band. The music itself has a more experienced feel to it.
This is probably the best overall cd I think they made (through Chuck). Although none of the songs would be in my top 10 for them, it is the only cd that I actually like every song on.
I personally though, can not continue to listen to a band that believes the President should be killed, and vocalizing this, like him or not. Im not a huge Bush fan anymore, but still...its a respect for the position thing. They just took it one step to far.
Editorial Reviews for Does This Look Infected Audio Cd Amazon.com Sum 41's blockbuster debut, All Killer No Filler, lifted riffs from Motley Crue and the Beastie Boys to make a formidably dumb racket, but this follow-up finds the Toronto quartet reining in its spiky-haired insolence. Drawing musical inspiration from toothy metal icons Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, Does This Look Infected? is not only meatier than its predecessor, but songs like "Still Waiting," with its opening refrain of "So am I still waiting, for this world to stop hating," and "Yesterday.com" reveal social consciousness creeping in. The album is not completely deprived of the goofy skate punk that launched the band, but it provides convincing evidence that CNN has taken over from Nickelodeon as Sum 41's preferred tour bus viewing. --Aidin Vaziri
