Reviews Customer Reviews for From The Ashes Not so great Rating: I've been a huge fan of Pennywise since I was a lot younger. But this is the album that has weened me off them.
I don't know what Jim and the boys have done but it all sounds so clean and boring. The only song that comes close to firing me up in the way they used too is Punch Drunk. I think this album, and The Fuse were seriously let down in the mixing process. It just doesn't have that Pennywise edge any more.
Customer Reviews for From The Ashes Cd Progress and reasoning Rating: I decided to write this review based on the opinions expressed in this page.
In advanced i hope some of you may not feel personally offended by the comments made in this review.
For those who truly understand music, and listening and creativity, etc etc, it probably may have occured to you that this album lacks most of these concepts.
First and foremost, I personally enjoy pennywise, for the way that they execute new punk music and because they had an original sound, but this album is a deception as far as creativity.
One of the purposes of continuity, is change. Change is inevitable, and if these folks continue to sound similar in many albums, then it is reasonable to think that they CHOOSE to sound like this.
If they choose to sound this way, still, there may be a reason. One which we dont understand, having made very good albums in the past (wild card, unknown road, about time, full circle)
Here is a list of the songs in this album and they're appeal to songwriting:
1. Now I Know------ ok, not a bad title....
2. God Save The USA -------Doesnt that sound like: god save the queen?
3. Something To Change-----ok, another simple term
4. Waiting--- Green Day has a song titled waiting
5. Salvation-- The Cranberries
6. Look Who You Are ---- self explanatory
7. Falling Down -----wow!, how original! (not)
8. Holiday In The Sun--- the Sex pistols and exploited, have a song named like this...
9. This Is Only A Test--- wow!, how original! (not)
10. Punch Drunk---- ok...
11. Rise Up--- ok..
12. Yesterdays---- uhm......
13. Change My Mind--- ?
14. Judgment Day--- wow!.......
The sound of the album is very repetitive. The concept Art is horrible, there is no connection between this and past Pennywise ideas...... And it came with a promotional Dvd, which makes an attempt to selling the album.
Overall, i give it 2 stars for the effort, but the other 3 are minus for daring to release the album, and not taking the time to think it through. Bad move from an excellent group. By the way, how is THE FUSE?
This Review will complete itself, if only the following album is somewhat similar.
