Reviews Customer Reviews for Trans Global Spectacle No Complaints Rating: We all had to wait for this DVD for a long time and when I finally got it I was not disappointed. Because I live in Germany I never saw Orgy in concert or anything and this DVD was great to see more of Orgy than just some low quality live bootlegs.
I have to agree that this DVD is more for the fans who are interested in the band itself, if you are just into the music and don't care for the band at all it's probably not the right DVD for you. As for myself I often don't have the patience to watch concert-only DVDs, I prefer behind the scenes material where you can see the people behind the music. I know that Orgy wanted to pack a lot more live stuff on the disc but they had too much problems getting older live material from Warner. It shouldn't be blamed on the band, they had actually planned to include a whole live concert from the VT tour.
Also I think that saying that the material was badly put together is too harsh, Orgy are on an independant label a didn't have a huge amout of money to produce it. I don't know what the bad thing should be according to some people, I don't need a heavily animated navigation. The only thing I criticize is that there should have been more chapters to choose from.
I feel the need to refer to the review below, raging about the band being drug addicts. It's not a secret that they took drugs, the majority of the fans knows that. And how many more or less successful bands out there haven't taken drugs at some point of their career? But what should Orgy do? Showing off on the DVD how to inject heroine? I think it's quite pointless to complain about showing 'nice' things only. Maybe they could have added more material of the things the crew did and the actual filming but on the other hand it's an Orgy DVD. Personally I wouldn't have enjoyed seeing 10 minutes of the crew working.
All in all I have to repeat that this DVD is made for people who like the band and the music, for those who like the music only this DVD could be a disappointment.
Customer Reviews for Trans Global Spectacle Cd I was there Rating: I was part of the production team on the music video "Fiction: Dreams in Digital" so I can compare what happened behind the scenes and what you get to see. Let me tell you the "backstage look" at the making of Fiction is nothing of the sort. It's a quick walk-through of the soundstage we filmed in, shot on a hand-held camcorder by one of the band members. No mention is made of the gruelling shooting schedule, the 20-hour days, the heroic efforts of the crew, the gorgeous Cynthia playing the video's lead role.... basically they don't credit, or show, anyone but themselves. You don't even see the director, or producers, or anyone else.
The "fiction" shoot was a brutal, $800,000 production and there is a lot to say about it, from the faceless soldier who wore a prosthetic mask and threw up in it, to the fistfights between the art department and the first assistant director, and let's not forget the fact that the band was on drugs half the time (the real drugs, the ones that kill you). My favorite quote from the shoot, from one of the band guys to the production coordinator: "dude, you gotta get more security, someone tried to nick my girlfriend's heroin."
I had limited contact with the band during production but the impression I got was that they were very self-centered and though well into their thirties, acted like a bunch of angry teenagers. These aren't cool young guys. They're confused, clueless grown men. It's no surprise to me the band imploded. Still, I wish them recovery from their drug problems, I'd never spent time with heroin addicts before and it doesn't look like fun. In the meantime, don't buy this DVD, it's sloppily made, hastily thrown together - and if the "fiction" backstage look is any indication of how "real" the contents are, then believe me, it's all fluff.
