"He's The One They Call Dr.Feelgood,He's The One That Makes You Feel Alright"
     Rating:
After 1985's "Theatre Of Pain" and 1987's "Girls,Girls,Girls" Motley Crue decided to get their act togheter and make the best album they possibly could. And that's exactly what they did with "Dr.Feelgood" in 1989.They clean up and got sobber for the first time since well...ever(they weren't always but they improved a lot).Their last two albums were hugely succesfull but as Nikki Sixx said he wanted to an album he could be proud of.The last time he had that pride was with "Shout At The Devil" in 1983.To do things right they hired producer Bob Rock who pushed them to make the best album possible, whatever it was that Bob did,it worked."Dr.Feelgood" went on to become their best-selling album and it reached # 1.

The album is definatly their best since "Shout At The Devil".The songwritting got considerably better than their two previous albums and they were focused. The album has Motley Crue classics such as the title track(very agressive,I love it!) and "Kickstart My Heart"(furious guitars and very fast as well!),but also just fun hair metal songs such as "Same Ol'Situation"(catchy chorus)and "Slice Of Your Pie"(pure hair metal, just a fun song). There are of course ballads,"Without You" which is pretty good but not as good as either "Home Sweet Home" or "You're All I Need",tought it stays in the same vein as the latter."Time For A Change" is another ballad, less appealing but at a certain point in my life the song fitted me well as I needed a change."Don't Go Away Mad" was never my favourite but it became pretty known at one point,it is melodic and has a ballad side to it.The opener "Terror'N'Tinseltown" or "TNT" as offen refered to,is just an opener for the Dr.Feelgood song, without any singing and its just some sounds put togheter and the album didn't really need it anyway."Sticky Sweet" is not bad but it ain't great either."She Goes Down" is a dirty hair metal anthem and the slow part of the song with just Tommy oon drums and the band singing is great,I like this one a lot."Rattlesnake Shake" doesn't have any point to it,it ain't about a life experience,it doesn't make any sense but is still a fun song.

These remasters really do something for the albums as they give fans what many bands don't,respect.Fans are well treated as we get an unreleased track "I Get It For Free"(which is not very good and mostly cheesy,it might have been from the girls era),four demos(Dr.Feelgood,Without You,Kickstart My Heart and Time For A Change)and the video of Kickstart My Heart. There are comments on a few tracks in the booklet by some band members.

Dr.Feelgood was not only Motley Crue's most succesfull album,it was also the last album the band did with Vince Neil before "Generation Swine" in 1997.The band would take a different direction after Feelgood as Grunge music killed Hair Metal and bands would have to adapt and change their sound to say alive. An album like this couldn't be done in the 90s.This is THE Hair Metal album, the ultimate one.The Crue is better than your average Hair band and heavier, they are a sort of "heavy hair metal" band,a cross between hair metal and heavy metal.Fans of either style should technically like the band.Feelgood is not perfect but it is a strong album and it generated a few classics.Bob Rock did a solid job,in fact the guys from Metallica were impressed by his work on Feelgood and they hired him as their producer for what would become the black album. Each song on the album except one was released as a single!Highly recommended,a must for fans of the band or simply great for a rock collection.

     One of Motley's Finest
     Rating:
One of the best by the Crüe, Dr. Feelgood offers up a heapin' helpin' of blues infused, hard rockin' music. "Dr. Feelgood" is a classic track, and is complemented by other killer stuff such as "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Sticky Sweet," as well as four (!) other well known Crüe tracks in "Kickstart My Heart," "Without You," "Same Ol' Situation," and "Don't Go Away Mad."

This is, in many ways, the Crüe's pinnacle. Not so raw as early efforts like Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil, but with superior songwriting and performance than albums like Theatre of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls, Dr. Feelgood is the culmination of all those early years, in one great album!

Great Crüe!
