Reviews Customer Reviews for I Ve Got A Right To Cry      Barnett's elegant delivery is never better than it is here      Rating:      As a DJ and collector of country music in particular, I've had an opportunity to listen to thousands of CDs, and I keep coming back to this one as being one of the ten best I have ever heard. Mandy Barnett should be a bigger star. Ask anyone who's heard her, especially this release, and they'll tell you. She's compared so often to Patsy Cline because few singers can offer the range and passion in their delivery the way Barnett does. "I've Got A Right To Cry" is backed by some of the best talent country music has to offer. Legendary Owen Bradley produces four of the tracks. The song selection is outstanding, with Barnett covering classics from Don Gibson ("Give Myself A Party") and Porter Wagoner ("Trademark") among others. The string arrangements on songs like "Don't Forget To Cry" bring to mind Cline's "Sweet Dreams". Song for song, I find this one of the best collections of country music released by a single artist in the last ten years. Her voice is so clear and strong song after song. In 2005 I saw and heard her perform in Hanover, PA. Her voice is amazing. On her I've Got A Right To Cry CD, just listen to her sing these songs; The Wispering Wind, With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming, and Don't Forget To Cry. It is so beautiful. Editorial Reviews for I Ve Got A Right To Cry Audio Cd      Amazon.com      This Mandy Barnett CD is sure to get pegged as a Patsy Cline karaoke project--for one thing, because it was the last project of Cline's producer, the late and great Owen Bradley, and, for another, because Barnett got her break playing Cline in a stage play. With her sultry, powerful voice, Barnett can play the part to the hilt, but the Patsy connection only tells part of the story. The best cut here, "Funny, Familiar, Forgotten Feelings," is actually closer to the steel-driven '70s work Bradley did with Conway Twitty. Throughout the cuts pay tribute to a long tradition of catchy country, from Eddy Arnold and Carl Smith to Don Gibson and Hank Jr. But it's Patsy that Barnett most often channels. So, "Don't Forget to Cry," the title track, and others purr and swoon away like "Crazy," just as you'd expect, but they come off as trying too hard, too busy, slightly manic, full-tilt from note one. Still, Barnett's Patsy impersonation is really something. And until she finally lets us hear her own true voice, I've Got a Right is a charming countrypolitan trip down memory lane. --David Cantwell
