Reviews Customer Reviews for Righteous But Ruthless When Hip-Hop Was Civilized Rating: As a member of the Nation of Gods and Earths (aka 5% Nation) I was VERY proud of this brother when he came out. This album is, for the most part, a solid piece of work. Stand out songs are "Be Black", "The Gods Are Taking Heads" the collaboration with another group I highly recommend, Poor Righteous Teachers (PRT), and my perosnal favorite, "Universal Flag" which is so hot I HAD to go out and get this album.
I gave this album a 4 because it's not a perfect 5 in my book; it's very good, but not great. Songs like "Stunts" and "Soft Shoe Booty" take away from the overall quality of the album.
That being said, it's still a worthy purchase and brings us back to a time when Hip-Hop was not about Cadillacs and Grillz but righteous talk, teaching those who would listen, about the knowledge of self.
Peace!
Customer Reviews for Righteous But Ruthless Cd ESSENTIAL HIP HOP FOR THE TRUE FAN AT HEART Rating: this is raw, authentic hip here. man, this made me want to get a high top fade and some ewings or something. my head would not stop noddin'. love the PRT collaboration on here. my joint on here though is BE BLACK. i wish that today's hip hop was more like this in the modern sense. today, there is too much emphasis on the material. this takes me back to that conscious era when cats were saying something to reach, teach, and uplift!!!!
