Reviews Customer Reviews for Boyz In The Wood And Other Fables Fabulous Fables Rating: Grant Cooper is one of the few symphony conductors whose background is trumpet, not violin or piano. There are at least two CDs featuring him as a performer, although his current musical life is centered on directing and composing.
His "fables" are ostensibly directed toward young people, but since he doesn't talk down to them the works are equally absorbing for adults -- and musically sophisticated adults at that. "Boyz in the Wood" has been compared, inevitably, to Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," and with good reason.
Cooper continues to compose and conduct, and we can expect much more of his humorous, intelligent work.
Customer Reviews for Boyz In The Wood And Other Fables Cd You should hear this Rating: Musically exciting while being very amuzing. Reaches children, but really for any audience!!! Tales told are Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Rumpelstiltzkin. A must for ALL ages.
Editorial Reviews for Boyz In The Wood And Other Fables Audio Cd Album Description Step aside Prokofiev, there?s a new wolf in town! The Cayuga Chamber Orchestra presents its premiere recording, "Boyz in the Wood and other Fables" aimed at audiences of all ages. Composer Grant Cooper leads the thirty one piece orchestra through these spirited new versions of classic children?s stories. The title selection, "Boyz in the Wood", casts Little Red Riding Hood as a coloratura soprano, sung by Deborah Montgomery. The Wolf, performed by baritone Steven Stull, is a master of many styles, from his opening ?Wolf?s Rap,? through a snappy dixieland ?Step Right Up,? to his convincing impersonation of Grandma. National Public Radio?s host of Weekend Edition Sunday, Liane Hansen, narrates a charming "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". Commissioned by the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, "Rumpelstiltzkin", is narrated by Cooper with Beauty and the Beast Storytellers, Martha Hamilton as the Miller?s Daughter and Mitch Weiss as Rumpelstiltzkin and the King. Members of the Ithaca Children?s Choir add their voices to the mix. 74 minutes of fun for the whole family!
