Reviews Customer Reviews for Sidewalk Probably the most balanced Icehouse album Rating: I always thought Icehouse was probably the most appropriately-named band ever. (OK, I don't think there ever was a question that Icehouse never really was a band. Icehouse was Iva Davies, period. And that's clear just looking at the cover. You don't see a band anywhere do ya? But I digress..........)
There was always a trademark coldness about Icehouse albums, with a lot of synth-heavy, moody songs about alienation and disillusionment. Although those were offset by the occassional "We Can Get Together" or such, this is probably the most balanced offering of the Icehouse catalog.
This album balances out that trademark....well, iciness, with warmer songs like "This Time", "Dusty Pages" and "Stay Close Tonight", while Iva still evokes a heavy chill with songs like the title track, "Don't Believe Anymore" and "Shot Down".
There's nothing on here as immediately memorable as "We Can Get Together", or some of the later minor hits like "Electric Blue"; this is an album with it's own unique, cohesive feel, one of those that gets you after repeated listenings. It's a fine one to dim the lights and chill out with (pun completely intentional).
Customer Reviews for Sidewalk Cd Nearly perfect Rating: Iva Davies darkest album, which was recorded all in 1 take only! "Don't Believe Anymore" maybe Icehouse best, even if it is quite sad. All the songs work here, from the clever acoustic/keyboard "Dusty Pages" to the dance hall "Shotdown". Non singles such as the "Title Track" & "The Mountain" should not be taken lightly, as each tells an important messege in the pains of life. Icehouse never sounded better then this release. Note: "Dance On" & "Java" are Not included on this release, but would be later in late 2002 (FINALLY!)
