My apologies to Rolling Stone Record Guide. RSRG aptly termed this band's offerings as dog food, an obvious reference to the title of this album. This is dreadful music. The big hit from this album, "Love Hurts", is musically marginal at best, and that is the song's strong point. Featuring trite lyrics (are we really supposed to take lyrics like "love is like a flame that burns you when it's hot" seriously?) and one of the worst vocal performances in rock history (possibly the worst until Axl Rose of Guns n' Roses started destroying such classics as Van Morrison's "Wild Nights") one would have to be pretty brave to want to look past this song into the rest of the album's offerings. If you want to listen to a GOOD song named "Love Hurts", listen to the Everly Brothers. The rest of the album really does not get much better either. The title track, which still gets occasional airplay, is marginally less offensive than "Love Hurts", and might have even made it as a hard rock classic if it had been performed better. As bad as these two hits are, just imagine what the filler sounds like! Lacking anything resembling the poetic vision of Doors or the strong songwriting and musicianship of Led Zeppelin, this album (and this band) should appeal to people who enjoy poor to mediocre things in life. If you like hard rock and have any musical sensibility at all, look elsewhere. Even bands like Foreigner and Triumph have these guys beat hands down.

I had this album back in the late 70's and it's a great album! It sure brings back some great memories! Good songs, and great sound.
