Reviews Customer Reviews for Nursery Cryme Mout Ida Rises Like an Island Rating: The Genius-sis didn't start here, as many maintain. Knife had some great works; White Mountain, Visions of Angels, Knife, but this album marks the beginning of the most fantastic era of the best band ever, from here to Gabriel's departure after Lamb. The new addition of Hackett and Collins makes the band sound a bit choppy and unfamiliar on this album, and there is a lack of smoothness that is gone by the time the band produced Foxtrot. The album flows from the eccentric and dark Musical Box to the comical Harold the Barrel, the super-sweet and romantic Harlequin (the album art associated with this song contains the mental image of the most beautiful imaginary girl ever) to the powerful, moving, mysterious, tear-your-hair-out climactic Fountains of Samicus, the tale of the morphing hemaphrodite. Wow, well worth the price of admission for just this cut. Genesis forever.
Customer Reviews for Nursery Cryme Cd Not a masterpiece - but way better than most masterpieces Rating: Nursery Cryme is admittedly not on the level of the following albums Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound, yet I have found that over the decades that I listen to It as much as those that followed. I find that its rawness holds an attraction to me that makes me appreciate it as much as later albums. Hackett and Collins are terrific additions (even though I am a big fan of Ant). I think too many reviewers feel that they can't give this 5 stars because other albums by Genesis are better. But then when I find myself giving 5 stars to Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, VDGG or Anthony Phillips.... hmm... I begin to understand how truly awesome Genesis is and particularly this album. So yes, 5 stars! If you like prog, you will love this album - over and over.
