Reviews Customer Reviews for Fleurs The minimalist's interpretation of good old standards Rating: A precious concentrate of songs and ballads from the past, Battiato's Fleurs finds its gold in the fusion of the Author's real enjoyment and the wisely used instrumentation. His voice is as warm and intriguing as usual. This has little to do with his experimental music of the early '70s, but has its own tiny investigation into standards from composers as diverse as De Andre', the Stones, Richard Anthony, Jacques Brel, and the late Sergio Endrigo, among the others. The two Battiato's originals get out at the end, with wit and good taste. Nothing more to be desired if you are in search of something new. American Radio Stations, take note!
Customer Reviews for Fleurs Cd Franco Battiato "Un-Plugged" Rating: Franco Battiato is one of the greatest musical geniuses that ever lived. For those who doubt Mr. Battiato's genius, this CD will prove it beyond all doubt. On this CD, Franco Battiato uses his limited voice effectively. He also employs some back-up singers / chorus to add gusto to the recordings. Also, Franco Battiato's usual "techno pop" instrumentation is kept to an absolute minimum; he uses piano, strings, and; where necessary, synthesizers. This CD show- cases a more "reflective" Franco Battiato. One might evn say, an "Unplugged" Franco Battiato. This CD features Mr. Battiato performing pop standards from the 60's. Franco Battiato's cover of the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday" is worth the price of this CD alone. I have a feeling that Mr. Battiato really liked "Ruby Tuesday." For those who know his work, you will recall the inference to "Ruby Tuesday" on his "La Voce Del Padrone" LP. The other selections on this CD will take your breathe away. On the final track, "Invito Al Viaggio," Franco Battiato uses a formula that worked for him during the "experimental days;" he starts the song off with a bit of poetry. Just like back in the early 70's, this techniques works especially well for "Invito Al Viaggio." Franco Battiato is a perpetual student of the humanities. It was only a matter of time before he decided to record covers of the pop standards he really enjoyed. I simply hope that he continues this trend, and maybe perform some covers of Beatles' tunes. Franco Battiato's voice lends itself well for interesting renditions of "Yesterday" and "With a Little Help From My Friends." I strongly recommend this CD. This is Franco Battiato's greatest work since "La Voce Del Padrone." For those unfamiliar with this great artist, I urge you to purchase some of his recordings. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. As a matter of fact, this CD will be a good starting point. Next, buy " La Voce Del Padrone."
