Reviews Customer Reviews for We The Enlightened      Black Metal from Greece      Rating:      Not bad for Black Metal music, not bad at all. Somewhat like early Emperor except the acoustic flourishes of guitar, violin and cello are allowed full audio dominance. Each instrument is presented in a way which distinguishes itself from the overall Black metal mayhem. The overall feel is less symphonic, more acoustic or ensemble. The vocals vary, like the music, with clear, whispered and growl passages (it is NOT all death growls). I'm not sure what that other reviewer's comment is about, the vox is certainly varied...though blackened vox dominates it does'nt overwhelm. Similar to conceptual Viking metal in that The Elysian Fields compose their music around themes of ancient Greek History (Spartan Metal for you '300' fans, Hellenic for you history buffs. 'Elysian Fields' are very successful in conveying the warrior sense of hope (against imposing un-greek hordes), loss (of fellow warriors in battle), mystery (the nature of the Gods in the Cosmos) and destiny (fate vs free will). This sense of lyricism tends toward an actual historical base for inspiration rather than atypical anti-christian scree. It's as if the songwriter(s) knew that there was no christianity (to speak of) entrenched during the Hellenic period(@ 300bc to 300ce) so why be bothered with it? I like that. If you are in the mood for something different, here's a Black Metal band from Greece other than Rotting Christ that carry the torch just as well. It took a while to find it. But now we found it, and it's truely GREAT!!!!!! Let's all buy it and grunt the leaves from the trees!!!
