Reviews Customer Reviews for The Voice Of The Sparrow The Very Best Of Edith Piaf Le collection de Piaf est tres jolie et magnifique!! Rating: I frankfully became a Francophile when I was introduced to the voice and artistry of Edith Piaf in my high school French class which made me love the language even more!!. The beauty of her voice and of her protege/lover Yves Montand converted me to other chanteurs of song like Gilbert Becaud. If you've recently seen the award winning movie on her life, "La Vie en Rose" with an Oscar winning performance from Marion Cotillard then this collection of her most famous songs is just the ticket. If you want to hear some of these songs sung in English by her, there is "An Hymn to Love". Either way, English or French, her voice was one of the wonders of the 20th century along with other singer/actress who was born the same year as she was-Billie Holliday!!
Customer Reviews for The Voice Of The Sparrow The Very Best Of Edith Piaf Cd Piaf's Greatness Comes Through Rating: An excellent collection of some of her top hits. The tinniness of just one or two of the recordings does nothing less than add to the aura surrounding "The Little Sparrow."
Editorial Reviews for The Voice Of The Sparrow The Very Best Of Edith Piaf Audio Cd Amazon.com essential recording The voice of Edith Piaf carries with it perhaps more national identity than that of any other recorded artist in the world. Tiny, frail, and tragic in her life, Piaf brought French identity to the rest of the world in a way that was understandable to all. Known as "the Little Sparrow" in her country, her voice was strong, bold, and passionate, even as she grew more infirm. The archetypical torch singer, she had massive popular success with songs like "Milord," "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," and "La Vie, L'Amour," included here with 18 other classics. While this is a great compilation of some of her best material, the complete lack of enclosed notes or biographical material may frustrate those not familiar with her fascinating career. However, the work of one of the most original songbirds of all time speaks loud and clear for itself. --Derek Rath
