Reviews Customer Reviews for The Daryl Hall And John Oates Video Collection 7 Big Ones Not Much To Shout About Is It? Rating: Given the state of the art for DVDs out there and given the fact that Blu-Ray will probably soon become the ubiquitous standard, this DVD has fast become obsolete especially contentwise. Just 7 videos with poor VHS visual quality although I liked the fact that both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Linear Stereo PCM options were available for the sound which made at least the audio a redeeming factor although even that can be improved with a better remastering job. I can see a time soon where every Hall & Oates video ever made will be properly remastered both visually and audiowise and in a Blu-Ray format and so I will wait for that. By the way on this disc the Linear Stereo PCM option can be converted to surround if you have at least a Dolby Pro Logic option and I found that by using this option, the sound quality improved a little over the 5.1 option as the sound was louder and just a little clearer. The first two tracks "Say It Isn't So" and "Family Man" are the extended mixes while the rest are pretty much what you get on the cd except for "Adult Education" which is the version with the extra claps in the intro. Certainly not essential viewing for fans but unfortunately this seems to be the best and only video collection that's out there for now. Let's all wait with bated breath....

The trademark Hall & Oates sound -- that special blending of rock and soul -- is made even more irresistible by the accompanying visuals. Daryl Hall & John Oates are perhaps the most popular duo in rock history. Now 7 Big Ones lets you see Hall & Oates like you've only heard them before.

Editorial Reviews for The Daryl Hall And John Oates Video Collection 7 Big Ones Audio Cd Amazon.com While Michael Jackson's Thriller was making pop-music history, Daryl Hall and John Oates were topping the pop and R&B charts with the best blue-eyed soul since the Righteous Brothers. Culled from the pioneer days of MTV, this seven-hit video collection offers timeless proof that H&O's music endures, even if their microbudget videos now seem like flotsam from a bygone era. Poorly remastered, with a 5.1 Dolby remix that muddies up the original recordings (better to choose the PCM stereo option), these simple performance videos reveal all the strengths and weaknesses of '80s pop's most dynamic duo: Hall's vocals are the essence of soulful perfection, while Oates mugs it up with all the charisma of a toy poodle. The musicianship is superb (guitarist G.E. Smith would soon be fronting the Saturday Night Live band), but the videos are silly and crudely produced. Needless to say, this too-brief collection is for die-hard fans with a desire to stroll down memory lane. --Jeff Shannon
