Reviews Customer Reviews for Happydance Of The Xenophobe Liked the title song Rating: I'm not Christine Lavin's target audience. In fact, I probably AM one of her targets. But I heard the HappyDance song on a local university radio station and liked it.
I can't download the mp3 as a single and I'm not going to buy the album, but the glee expressed in HappyDance over the breakup of her male friend's romance and doing the HappyDance behind his back is very healing for any break-up.
Customer Reviews for Happydance Of The Xenophobe Cd Doin' a happydance for Christine Lavin Rating: Just when it might seem that Christine Lavin's tongue couldn't get any further in her cheek without it emerging, Alien-like, through to the outside, or that her sarcasm couldn't drip any faster, "Happydance of the Xenophobe" proves otherwise. (In the interests of full disclosure, I should mention that I have known Chris back to the days decades ago when she left her last "day job" to pursue music full-time and remain one of her biggest fans. I'm also "on" a couple of her records, as a background singer and radio show host.)
Christine is the only songwriter I know who would not only write a paean to the joys of caffeinated chcolate (or is that chocolated caffeine?) -- the latest in a long series about the joys of various foodstuffs -- but also take the time to research the inventor and mention him by name.
Her satirical songs remain as sharp and funny as ever. Her knack for viewing current events and political issues from a unique, artist's perception will make you look at those issues differently. And her guitar playing, musical arranging, knack for celestial harmonies and production sense continues to evolve.
This record will make you laugh in spots, make you cry in spots, and sometimes both at once. Highly recommended, as are all of Christine's previous releases. And if you see Christine coming to your town (which is almost certain, since she's on the road most of the time), go see her. She's even better live than on record.
Editorial Reviews for Happydance Of The Xenophobe Audio Cd Product Description Happydance, n. [hap-ee dahns] An impulsive, spontaneous jig of joy.
Xenophobe, n. [zen-uh-fohb, or zee-nuh-fohb] A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, exotic, or out of the ordinary.
"Happydance Of The Xenophobe" is my new topical, political, 13-song collection that will thrill the National Weather Service ("Here Comes Hurricane Season"), delight Julia Child devotees ("Whipped Cream"), enrapture caffeine addicts ("Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans"), but also irk Priscilla Presley, the NRA, cigarette smokers, Faux News, and best of all, Dick Cheney. The album ends with an unexpected medley of five of my favorite folk tunes from the '60s and '70s set to a dance beat (more on that later). Plus there's a hidden surprise bonus track.
