Customer Reviews for Oklahoma Rising A Salute To The Artists And Music Of Oklahoma Cd Happy Birthday, Oklahoma--and we get the presents! Rating: You've got to hand it to Oklahoma. They have a 100 year Statehood anniversary and the state knows how to have a party!
My husband is a born and raised Oklahoman and I was raised there. It's a surprise to many that so much good music and musicians have a connection to the Sooner State.
What's great about this collection is the two disc set offers both historical and contemporary songs. Disc A features "Oklahoma" the state anthem from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical by the same name, plus a mix of jazz, country, folk, and a little bit of rock. We've even got one sacred song by the famous opera singer, Leona Mitchell.
Disk B features Vince Gill and Jimmy Webb doing "Oklahoma Rising". I've got to confess, this song was the main draw for me, but the rest is SO worth it. We also have a pretty serious country and pop lineup including Garth Brooks, Kristen Chenowith, etc.
The packaging is eco friendly with some gorgeous photos of the Sooner State on both front and back. Plus, the liner notes include lyrics and some interesting information. My regrets--I'd have included
two additional Oklahoma based groups: the Nixons and David Gates with Bread if their labels would have permitted.
