Reviews Customer Reviews for Deluxe Hit and Miss pop record Rating: I like most people (everybody) bought this album because of the song "Good." Hey, it's one of the greatest songs of the '90s, no doubt. And there were a few one-hit wonders from the '90s that actually made some quality albums, the Wallflowers and Gin Blossoms come to mind. Well, Better than Ezra has not really made a great album, but they made a pretty good one. Yes, "Good" is the best song on the album, probably followed by "Rosealia." The songs are very pop and might seem a tad light to some people that like their rock a little harder, but if you want some mellow and non-threatening tunes to chill to, this is the ticket.
Customer Reviews for Deluxe Cd Is there a better alternative rock band today? Rating: Well first of all i really enjoyed the record. there isnt a bte cd that i didnt like. people say they are country-ish but they arent really. its just that songs like southern gurl and coyote have sort of an alternative western feeling but nothing like today's counrty music. in fact there is no comparison cause if country was like this, it would be my favorite style of music. But lets get to the point. Here is an awesome set for you if you like just about any style of music rather its pop, country, rock, punk, alternative or what...
IN THE BLOOD- a great rocker to start of the record. Kevin's awesome vocals express themselves better than any other song on here. It also has a nice remix found on greatest hits.
GOOD-i agree that it sounds like something from Green Day's Dookie but its kinda punky and alternative. This is the most popular song on the album and the biggest hit. It fits in with bands like Weezer and Green Day that were also popular at that time. I guess this is a pretty GOOD song.
SOUTHERN GURL- nice slang in the title that a lot of artists use these days but even though this isnt the greatest song on the cd it has a nice chorus that sounds country. i guess thats where reviewers see country in them
THE KILLER INSIDE-pure southern alternative with a western feel to it. just like all the other songs. this one kinda sounds like a dave matthews alternative song...its really good and deserves more credit
ROSEALIA- A song about a girl named roselia of course. this sorta sounds like a combination of southern girl and good. And its another popular song
CRY IN THE SUN- a softer song that has some more powerful vocals with pure alternative music sound to it. Again, like killer it deserves a lot more recognition.
TEENAGER- another rebelious punky song that starts off like southern girl but is different than most songs. Its sorta dark and bright at the same time. This one always stood out to me.
???- this is just an untitled instrumental. and a pretty good one too. But i usually skip it.
SUMMER HOUSE- not really my favorite but it has a nice deep bass or low guitar begining to it. another harder song.
PORCELAIN- You cant ignore this song. Great vocals and its accoustic for the most part. This is another favorite. It was also remade on greatest hits with the voodoo mix that can also be found live on the new orleans set
HEAVEN- should have got more recognition. i downloaded an accoustic version too. this is one of my favs so i listen to it quite often. its really good if you listen. and as you can tell it comes close to being christian rock with the title "Heaven"
THIS TIME OF YEAR- there is a french version that was made later on for a special edition of closer that contains part of the later hit "get you in" about mid-song. you can find it on greatest hits. the newer version also has a great guitar solo in it but still personally despite the new version's live popularity i prefer this version the most its a little softer but still its a great song. its nice to play around fall or winter especially around christmas but its suited for spring and summer too. any time before your favorite season but mostly fall and winter i guess.
COYOTE- another western side of the band that we havent heard in a while. this song is about traveling through the rockies. i like it and it is a great way to end the cd. but who said it was the end? i dont think u should take out the cd just yet...i dont know there might be a hidden track or something....im not telling...its a secret...
overall with a hidden track which is really good for a first cd i think this is an awesome cd. this is the best of better than ezra. wait!!! did i say it had a hidden track? oops....uhh forget i said that....uhhh well....ummm...bie! just erase that last part about the secret track out of your head....
Editorial Reviews for Deluxe Audio Cd Amazon.com Like a Jayhawks without the Los Angeles glitz, Louisiana's Better Than Ezra plays soulful country rock that's artful but bare of artifice. Regrouping after an independent debut and the death of its rhythm guitarist, the trio originally released the engaging Deluxe on its own, but it has since been picked up by Elektra. The band gets extra points for "The Killer Inside," a tune that quotes crime noir novelist Jim Thompson. --Jim DeRogatis
