Reviews Customer Reviews for The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bowl 2 CD Three Complete Concerts From The Fab Four Rating: When the album was initially released in May 1977, it quickly became a gem, reaching #1 on the U.K. album chart and #2 in the United States.
Due to minimal authorized live material that may have popped up on albums worldwide, the very rough sound quality from the August 23, 1964, and August 30, 1965, concerts (parts of the August 29, 1965, concert was used for dubs) was cleaned up from three-track recordings by George Martin, with the mixing of dates to give a feel of one live date.
This 2-CD set takes the material to a magnificent level, as it presents all three concerts - 1964 on disc one, two 1965 gigs on disc two - and an interview with John Lennon and Ringo Starr (1964) & press conference (1965).
And with the continued dearth of authorized live material more than 30 years after the original release, the importance of this expanded issue takes on even more significance. Simply, this is an essential set for any fan who has an historical outlook into rock-n-roll.
Customer Reviews for The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bowl 2 CD Cd BOTH cds are Great! Rating: I agree with the other reviewers for this 2 cd set. It's everything they said it is and more. I ordered it on their recommendation, with the understanding that cd 2 was not that good but cd 1 is great. Well, let's just say that I'm happy to report that they are WRONG about cd 2. Both cds are fantastic. When I read that cd 2 was not very good, I expected a bad recording with lots of noise. Let me assure you this is not the case. Apparently the bad quality they were referring to was not the cd itself, but the technical difficulties that the Beatles experienced during the August 29th 1965 show. On the first two songs, 'Twist and Shout' and 'She's a Woman', it seems the vocal mics are out and you can only here the instruments. This also seems to throw the boys vocals off when the mics finally come back on. The vocals are suddenly too loud. But by the third song, 'I Feel Fine' this has been rectified and the concert continues without anymore problems. In fact there is much stage banter and chatter that was not included on the Capitol issue of this concert. If you compare the two cds in this set, there is absolutely NO difference in quality. And some songs sound better on the 8/29/65 show (cd 2) than they do on the 8/30/65 show which is on cd 1. An added bonus for cd 2 is the Larry Kane interview with John and Ringo and the L.A. press conference from August 29th. Cd 1 includes the August 23rd, 1964 show and the August 30th 1965 show that I previously mentioned. In conclusion this cd set is well worth the price. I own a rather large library of live Beatles recordings (on bootleg) as well as the chopped up, Capitol issue of the Hollywood Bowl concerts. I'm delighted by this 2 cd set which includes all 3 Bowl concerts in their entirety, with excellent quality (for the mid '60's) stereo sound. It's finally available. Enjoy.
