Reviews Customer Reviews for Be Yourself      Just Alright      Rating:      This is the kind of song that you can listen to, but will not stay with you for very long. The lyrics are rather trite, and the instrumentation is just average, by the standards of Tom Morello and company. Not Audioslave's best work. And to these people complaining about Audioslave being "mainstream:" get over yourselves you pretentious fools! Have we forgotten that Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine were very poplular and made regular appearances on MTV in their day? Being popular does not make a band bad, and being unknown does not make a band good.     Customer Reviews for Be Yourself Cd      Give it up....      Rating:      I was at work when I heard that Rage broke up. I went home, got wasted, stayed in my room, and blasted their CDs all night long. Then I heard about Audioslave - I was apprehensive, but couldn't wait to hear the sound. Chris has always been a great vocalist/lyricist. And, the first CD was amazing, especially the track "Set it Off" - arguably the sickest song on the album (thank you, Tom) - you could almost hear the ghost of RATM rise from the past. Could a rich rockstar still write like that? The CD's success was also, in part, due to the group's determination to make it. I saw them in small venues. They were relatively unknown and had a few hits at that time so they played a lot of RATM and Soundgarden (they even played the entire length of "Outshined" once). Chris' presence on stage was calm, and, in effect, complemented Tom's energy. By the time they released their second CD, which was mediocre at best, they were already mainstream. The venues were now larger and the crowd was MTV. Not many knew the RATM stuff and fewer knew Soundgarden. I watched, almost in horror, as no one knew the words to "Hunger Strike," which they played during the last tour. I knew - at that moment - that they were going to sell out. And that they did with this piece of crap. Why? Why? Don't you have enough money already? Do you really enjoy playing for 15 year old kids who are there with their parents? How does it feel to sell out? Will this audience ever understand when you kept quiet for 15 minutes on stage to protest for freedom of speech? Will these kids understand "Freedom?" Do they even know who Mumia Abu Jamal is? Or the Night Watchman? All I have to say now is, f**k you, Tom, Brad, and TimmyC. You should have gone with B Real. Chris, you're vocal skills are declining with age. You've put out some amazing lyrics, but give it up. Produce a new Seattle sound.
